Viena . Vienna (state) . Áustria

The Academy of Fine Arts was built from 1872 to 1876 according to plans by Theophil Hansen. Its Picture Gallery shows valuable works by old masters.

In addition to outstanding works by Dutch and Flemish painters from the 17th century (including Rubens, Rembrandt and van Dyck), the Academy's Picture Gallery also has such pieces as the altar of the "Last Judgment" by Hieronymus Bosch. Also on display: Murillo's "Dice Throwers", Venetian vedutas by Francesco Guardi, and paintings by Lukas Cranach the Older, Titian, and representatives of Viennese classicism around 1800.

The recently created gallery space xhibit, which opened in fall 2010, shows contemporary exhibitions of works by students and teachers as well as rotating exhibits from the Graphic Collection.
