The Bürgerliche Zeughaus (Civic Armory) was built in the late sixteenth century and was later enlarged; in 1731-32, it was redesigned by Anton Ospel.

The stone figures on the main facade are by Lorenzo Mattielli. Four Feuerknechte (fire vassals) stored their fire fighting equipment here as early as 1685. Today, the headquarters of the Vienna Firefighting Department and the Firefighting Museum are housed in the building.
