A history of Middelheim Musem and sculpture park
The park opened to visitors in 1950, originally set out to be a temporary exhibition space in Middelheim Park. The museum attraction proved so popular that it reopened on a permanent basis and after more than 60 years the impressive collection has grown and is among the most distinguished in the world.
Alongside its permanent collection, visitors to Middelheim can also enjoy visiting exhibitions twice annually, and the museum offers tailored programmes for both individual and group visits.
More than 200 works are permanently on show, and the park is divided into two main sections; The Middelheim Hoog, the southern part of the park containing the majority of the works ranging from the 19th century on, and the Middelheim Laag, which is home to the largest contemporary works.
