Óbuda's synagogue, built between 1820 and 1825, is one of the finest examples of Classicist-style architecture. Six pillars and a tympanum with the tablets of the law enhance the main façade. This is the oldest synagogue in Budapest built to serve the large Jewish community that lived in Óbuda in the 18th and 19th centuries.
In the 1960’s the building was sold to the Hungarian state-run television and converted into studios. In September of 2010 the Óbuda Synagogue opened its doors for services once again.
Getting to the Óbuda Synagogue: Take Subway (M2) to Batthyhány tér. From Batthyhány tér take the Suburban Railway (HÉV) to Árpád híd and take the short walk over to Lajos utca.
