Royal Museums For Fine Arts of Belgium - Antoine Wierz Museum
Ixelles . Brussels . Bélgica

Located in the European Quarter of Brussels, this museum reveals the work of 19th-century Belgian painter Antoine Wiertz.

The workshop-museum, in the Leopold quarter of Brussels, invites you to discover its imposing paintings, drawings and sculptures inspired by the great masters of the past.

Visitors entering the Wiertz Museum for the first time are in for quite a shock. Antoine Wiertz, the 19th-century Belgian artist, wanted to be Raphaël, Michelangelo and Rubens all rolled into one.

This controversial Romantic artist favoured religious subjects, philosophical and allegorical scenes and portraits. He often painted giant canvasses with a frenzied romanticism.
