Underground Museum (Boedapest)
Budapeste . Margitsziget Island . Hungria

he first subway line in continental Europe opened in 1896 in Budapest. The history of the underground railway can be seen in an authentic setting that is part of the original section of the old line. The royal carriage that transported Emperor Franz Joseph during the Millennium Underground's opening ceremonies is also exhibited here. A collection of photos and models tell the story of the line's development.

The museum is located underneath Deák Ferenc tér, the square where all three subway lines connect. The entrance to the museum can be found in the underground passage leading to the subway station.

On special occasions, like the annual “Night of the Museums“, vintage streetcars are on display at the Deák tér station.
